Political Correctness - Naughty or Nice

According to Merriam-Webster's Student Dictionary, the definition for "political correctness" is described as an adjective that means following the belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated. It should stand to reason that Political Correctness is nice.

Ten days have passed since most of the voters of the Electoral College of the United States of America generated more votes for a candidate who is self-proclaimed "Politically Incorrect." Many of the supporters of the candidate found joy and comfort in experiencing a leader who was not "Politically Correct." They hooted and guffawed at the crassness of a candidate who used amazingly coarse and insulting language throughout his campaign. Still, it must stand to reason for those who appreciate civility and peace that Political Incorrectness is naughty.

Parents, as advocates of social grace and civility, in spite of this candidate (now president-elect) who has provided an excellent example of what not to do and how not to behave, we must be vigilant and speak up to remind our children that choosing to be offensive is NOT nice - even when an elected leader does it.

Political Correctness is nice.

We must be sure that our civilized boys and girls recognize that all gentlemen are men but not all men are gentlemen. Unfortunately and presently, it seems our president-elect is no gentleman so, for the next four years, we must find role models elsewhere. Please remember to acknowledge and be thankful for the gentlemen in your lives and point out the examples of behaviors befitting a gentleman when they happen around your children. Best Wishes!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Leverette
